Complex concept sketches

So I’m getting pretty close to the end of my first semester at UIC. I’ve began working on my final project for instructional design. We have to explain a complex concept in science or medicine with visuals and text. I chose to explain sound transmission. I finally have the sketches complete so I can now start working in illustrator. Below are some final sketches of the inner ear. I have a feeling this project is going to take a lot of time mainly because there’s a lot to explain.

Life sketches

So, it’s been awhile since I last posted. Sad to say I haven’t had any new projects to show off. We’ve all been stressing out about the next anatomy exam that is this friday as well as assignment three that is due tuesday. I took a break from all that today and did some overdue five minute sketches. Last week we had figure drawing for anatomical visualization. Tuesday we drew the male figure and Thursday was supposed to be the female figure, however the model didn’t show up. I ended up volunteering to pose for the five minute sketches (fully clothed mind you). It was cool though took some willpower to stay still when my muscles started twitching and my hands got tingling. So, because I didn’t sketch I thought I should do it on my own time. Below are those sketches based off of some fashion photography.

Heart Sketch

I’ve already began working on assignment three for Anatomical Visualization. For part of the assignment we have to illustrate the heart. We are using the hearts from our cadavers in anatomy as part of our subject. This is my first sketch that I did today. There isn’t a whole lot of value (the purpose of assignment three is light and form) but I just wanted to get the rough idea. Also this is the posterior view.

Narrative Sketches

So for my Instructional Design class we have a narrative project. The purpose of the assignment is to illustrate a sequence of events that educates an audience on a medical or scientific subject. I chose how to use powder denture adhesive. The final assignment isn’t due until October 12th but we had to present our sketches last week. I have six steps total and you can see three of them below. I’m pretty happy with my sketches but I learned not everything can be illustrated. I was trying to figure out how to visually communicate that the powder turns into adhesive when it mixes with your saliva but I’m just going to have to write that out.
