Medical Logos

For our second assignment in advanced graphic design we had to pick three branches of medicine and create a logo for each. The challenge in this assignment was to create a cohesive look between all three branches while visualizing a concept in each branch. I chose the branches of allergology (study of allergies), hematology (study of blood), and adenology (the study of glands). I decided that because all of my branches dealt with a microscopic process the structures would be simplified and the viewer would see it from a microscopic lens. The concept I illustrated from allergology is attack, hematology is flow and adenology is secretion.

Higgs Boson

This semester I’m taking Advanced Graphic Design. For our first project we had to design a communication piece for Higgs Boson. Higgs Boson (also known as the “God Particle”) is the elementary particle in the Standard Model of particle physics. It was a major recent scientific discovery that is compared to the discovery of the electron that gave us electricity. There’s a lot of excitement around this discovery as it can lead to major scientific breakthroughs, however this discovery is majorly unknown to the public. My personal goal in this project was to create something that would attract the public and lead them to a place where they could learn more.

IPhone App

In the interactive class I took in the summer we learned how to use the programs Flash, Edge and Hype. Our main project was to create a prototype of a iphone or ipad app. Below is the iphone app I created for bug bite identification. There’s the sitemap and samples of the design.

Assignment five

I thought I should go ahead and post the last project I did for my first semester at UIC. The critique had been a week ago and it went pretty well. There’s text with the illustrations to help explain what’s happening. We basically had to explain the cardiovascular benefits of aspirin and why it is better to take with tylenol than ibuprofen. It was done in Illustrator and my audience is students rather than experts.

Complex Concept

It’s the weekend before finals and we are all consumed with projects. We have our complex concept for instructional design, assignment five for anatomical visualization, website for computer applications and the final presentation. I just finished my complex concept today and you can see it below. It’s due monday (as is our websites that I’ll be working on tomorrow) and I honestly can say that I’m happy with it. I don’t want to say how many hours I worked on this (too many to count) but now that’s it done, it was worth it.

Narrative

So here is my final narrative. I just scanned in my sketches, painted them in photoshop then did the layout in illustrator. Overall I got good feedback. The one thing I have to change is the young woman. I didn’t think about it (mainly because I used my aunt as a reference and she was pretty young when she got her dentures) but the target audience would be older. I will say it was pretty cool to see everybody’s narrative. There was some really great work.

Infographic

In my Instructional Design class we had to do an individual and group infographic. We were essentially given a chart of statistics and had to create a graphic representation of said statistics. For my group infographic we did causes of death in American women and received some very positive feedback. The image below is my individual infographic and like it says, it’s about cardiovascular disease in men. Haven’t received any feedback yet, but as of now I’m happy with it.
